Fidi Steinbeck

What an artist! Fidi Steinbeck is a song poet, the likes of which are very rare in Germany. She sings and plays the cello. She writes sensitive, poetic lyrics and uses them to embellish wonderful songs that leave no one untouched. These skills took Fidi all the way to the final of ‘The Voice Of Germany’ in autumn 2019. She then released a single with Mark Forster and went on tour with him in August 2022. Fidi also stands out on the outside: she (almost) always wears cowboy boots and big earrings. And she says wonderful things about her current state of mind, such as: ‘For four years now, I've only dedicated myself to music. It just feels great, like being permanently in love.’ Her first album FLIEDER was released on 28 October 2022. It tells of deep feelings, longings, sadness, hopes and life itself. It tells the story of Fidi Steinbeck and her great passion for music.

This passion can already be felt in the first single ‘Leicht’, which was released on 12 August 2022. The song shows the mixture of musical light-heartedness and lyrical depth that will continue from here. The stylistic diversity on FLIEDER ranges from urban pop and hip-hop to country and old-school influences (including original record crackling) and elements that can also be found in film soundtracks. ‘Because of my life story, I have a soft spot for classical music,’ says Fidi, who comes from a family of musicians and has played the cello since she was a child. She played her own songs live for the first time with the band ‘Fidi and the Twins’, which she founded in 2013. This laid the foundation for her love of country songs, which continues to this day and is also reflected in one of her new songs ‘Zwischenmenschen’. And of course in one of her trademarks: the cowboy boots. In the meantime, she has tried out a wide variety of professional fields, studied theatre, film and media studies in Vienna, then trained as a boat builder in Plön and worked as a post-producer in the film advertising industry. She says: ‘Perhaps I can use my life path as a role model for many others who are also searching for their own identity.’

The credo of her second single ‘Klopf 3 Mal’, a pop song released on 9 September 2022, is a true example of humanity and empathy in action. ‘...Wall to wall - is someone who can feel you...’ - a lyric line that can only come from someone who is coming to terms with their own vulnerability. As Fidi comments so tellingly and - in relation to this song - aptly: ‘Music is like a good friend to me, like a good girlfriend, it's always there!’ Do we need to say more about her motives for these great songs?

Perhaps just this much: there is an incredible amount to discover on FLIEDER (the third single of the same name was released two weeks before the album release): 12 songs with Fidi's warm, sensitive voice, her cello (‘in all variations, percussive, plucked, melodic’), piano sounds, banjo, a string quartet, guitars, bass, drums, and much more. For example, two extremely successful cover songs: a German version of the classic ‘Always On My Mind’ called ‘Für Immer’, as well as the song ‘Durch den Sturm’ by Matthias Schweighöfer, which she also chose for ‘The Voice Of Germany’. All of this was produced by renowned producers such as Daniel Nitt (Mark Forster), David Bonk and Julia Bergen (Lina) and Felix Gerlach and Frieder Does (Antje Schomaker). And what else there is to discover on FLIEDER remains hidden for the time being. The little secret is revealed with a QR code in the booklet of the CD, which opens an AR filter and reveals the number. Fidi produced this track all by herself! What an artist!
